Role of Stem cells in Anti-Aging

However, researchers were able to find that MSCs can be sourced from the Wharton’s Jelly in the umbilical cord, which is usually discarded as medical waste after delivery. These umbilical cord-mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs) are the most primitive source of stem cells that could be obtained from human body and it can differentiate into many different cell types.

Specifically, MSCs have the capacity to regenerate and replicate itself to counter tissue degeneration as well as tissue repair and regeneration. It also salvages and revive any weak stem cells in the host, contributing an important role in regenerative medicine.

MSCs not only improves our body’s wellness and immune system but it also enhances our external image aesthetically, hence the anti-aging effect; naturally and literally.

These MSCs are also immune privileged; meaning that they cannot be destroyed by the host’s immune defense cells and neither will they cause any adversed reaction.

MSCs naturally can perform therapeutic tasks. The human body has three kinds of natural agents that perform the tasks we demand of therapeutics. The first two are small molecules (eg: neurotransmitters) and biologics (such as antibodies, growth factors, cytokines, and peptide hormones). Cells could potentially be engineered to automatically adjust to differences. Thus, in principle, cells could yield therapeutic responses that are less variable in different individuals.

Less Immunogenic

MSC is less immunogenic which makes them a suitable candidate for allogeneic transplantation. This advantageous criteria of MSC lowered the risks of rejection (by the host’s immune system) and complications of transplantation.

Homing Ability

MSC also possesses the homing ability that could exert regenerative effects. Upon receiving ‘signals’, MSC can migrate to, and engraft in the tissue and followed by exerting their local and functional effects.
